Women's Soccer Falls in Sun Belt Conference Championship Quarterfinals

FOLEY, Ala. – The Coastal Carolina University women's soccer 2021 season came to an end on Wednesday night in a 1-0 loss to Georgia Southern in the quarterfinal round of the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament in Foley, Ala.

It was an evenly played match, but Marcela Montoya's goal just 28 seconds into the second half turned out to be the lone goal of the match and the game-winner.

CCU (6-9-2) outshot the Eagles (10-6-4) 14-12 with Megan Brouse leading the Chants with six shots. Carleigh Frilles and Loranna Austin each added two shots.

Goalkeeper Michaela English was the difference for the Eagles. She finished the night with five saves, including three that were in-the-box stops.

Coastal had fives shots on goal compared to only two for Georgia Southern and CCU's goalie Ky Hudson finished with just one save.

Each team had solid scoring opportunities in the opening 45 minutes, but neither found the back of the net as the first 45 minutes ended in a scoreless tie.

The half was even with both teams having seven shots, but the Chants had three of their shots on goal to only one for the Eagles. English had three saves, including one with 10 seconds left in the half on a 1-v-1 play with Rose Behrmann.
