Chants Battle Weather and Challenging Field at Florida Gators Invitational

Tournament was played in two days due to weather forecasted for Sunday
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Coastal Carolina men's golf team battled a loaded field and weather on Saturday to finish in a tie for 19th-place overall at the Florida Gators Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. The three-day event was crammed into two days, Friday and Saturday, due to the forecast of heavy rainstorms on Sunday.
The Chanticleers, who posted a first-round 283 on Friday, finished their second round of play with a 285 on Saturday morning. Coastal then finished the 24-hole day with a third-round score of 281 to finish tied for 19th overall with Missouri at 849, +9, for the event.
Host and No. 15 nationally-ranked Florida won the event with a 54-hole team score of 811, 29-under par. The Gators finished in front of No. 3 Georgia (816, -24), No. 8 Auburn (816, -24), No. 16 LSU (819, -21), Liberty (820, -20), No. 9 Alabama (823, -17), No. 1 Vanderbilt (826, -14), and 14 other teams.
For the second-straight event, States Fort led the Chants individually, as the fifth-year Chant carded three consecutive rounds of 70, even par, to place in a tie for 48th overall at 210, even par. The Georgia native led CCU with one eagle and nine birdies to go along with 35 pars over his two days of play.
One stroke behind Fort was Zack Taylor with his 54-hole score of 211, +1, which placed him in a tie for 57th. Taylor carded rounds of 70, 72, and 69, with his final round comprised up of two birdies and 15 pars. For his 54 holes, he tallied eight birdies and 40 pars, both of which ranked second on the team for the weekend.
Just one shot off of Taylor was Connor Newton who finished in a tie for 71st overall with a 54-hole score of 212, +2. The junior shot rounds of 70 and 73 over the first two rounds before carding a round of 69, 1-under par, for the final round. His third round mirrored Taylor's as he two had two birdies and 15 pars. His two days of play was highlighted by five birdies and a team-high 44 pars.
Fellow junior Tyler Gray placed in a tie for 105th with a 54-hole score of 220, +10, while sophomore Seth Taylor finished in a tie for 118th with his 54-hole score of 226, +16. Gray carded rounds of 73, 70, and 77, while Taylor improved over each round with scores of 77, 76, and 73.
Coastal will return to the links on Monday, March 1, for a dual match with Charleston Southern at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
