Melbourne, Fla. – After an almost two-hour rain delay, play finally started at the Moon Golf Invitational which forced the Coastal Carolina University women's golf team and the rest of the highly-competitive field to play in wet weather most of the day.
In the highly-competitive field, which boasts 11-nationally ranked teams, the Chanticleers held their own finishing the day 14th after firing an 11-over 299.
The conditions worsened as the day's play went on, but sophomore
Sophia Carlsen finished the first day of play with an even-par 72 (34-38) to lead the Chants. The opening round tied her best 18-hole score as a Chanticleer. Carlsen was the most consistent Chanticleer on Sunday with 11 pars and a team-best four birdies to finish tied for 19th.
Junior
Caitlin Evans-Brand carded a three-over 75 (36-39) and will head into tomorrow's second round tied for 52nd, while
Tiffany Arafi (37-39) and
Nicole Abelar (38-38) both finished the day with a 76 and in a tie for 58th.
Heidrun Hlynsdottir shot a five-over 77 (37-40) and sits tied for 68th heading into tomorrow's second round.
