SARASOTA, Fla. – Coastal Carolina University alum Morgan Deneen qualified on Monday for the 2021 LECOM Suncoast Classic Open on the Korn Ferry Tour by shooting a 65, 7-under par, and winning the first playoff hole at the open qualifier held at the Laurel Oak Country Club in Sarasota, Fla.
 
While playing the Player's Course, Deneen made the cut by shooting a 65 and finished the 18-holes in a six-way tie for second place overall.
 
With the six runner-ups vying for the three remaining qualifying spots, the 2018 Sun Belt Individual Champion and Newcomer of the Year sank a birdie in the first playoff hole to secure him a spot in the LECOM Suncoast Classic Open on Feb. 18-21.
 
Over his 18-hole round, Deneen carded an eagle on the par-5, No. 9, and also scored birdies on holes No. 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, and 18.

A Monday qualifier is a stroke play golf tournament held on the Monday before a professional golf tournament that awards top finishers entry into the professional tournament. Those who enter the Monday qualifiers are those with no status on the tour sponsoring the event or too far down the tour's priority list to earn direct entry. The players who earn entry into the professional tournament in this manner are also called Monday qualifiers.
 
The Korn Ferry Tour is the developmental tour for the U.S.-based PGA Tour and features professional golfers who have either not yet reached the PGA Tour, or who have done so but then failed to win enough FedEx Cup points to stay at that level. Those who are on the top 25 of the money list at year's end are given PGA Tour memberships for the next season. Since the 2013 season, the Korn Ferry Tour has been the primary pathway for those seeking to earn their PGA Tour card.
