CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team got back in the wins column with a 4-3 win over the North Florida Ospreys on Wednesday afternoon at the Lynn Stevens Tennis Complex in Conway, S.C.
The win pushes Coastal to 2-2 on the season, while the loss drops UNF to 2-7 on the year.
"Give credit to North Florida in doubles play. They blew us off the court but our guys did a great job regrouping for the singles," commented head coach
Chris Powers. "It was good to see our guys push back and protect our house against a really solid team."
After North Florida took a 1-0 lead with the doubles point, the Chants swarmed back to take a 2-1 lead with back-to-back straight-set wins in dominating fashion from
Neil O'Connor at 6-1, 6-3 on court No. 6 and
Pyry Hyrkkonen 6-3, 6-3 on court No. 2.
The Ospreys picked up the next win in a very competitive match on court No. 3 to tie the match up at 2-2 before CCU's
Diego Giraldo gave the home-standing Chants the lead back at 3-2 with a 6-2, 7-5 win on court No. 4.
Transfer
Bastien Huon sealed the win for the Chants with a 6-4, 6-4 win on court No. 1 to put Coastal on top at 4-2 in the match with one contest to play. The win was Huon's fourth-straight at the top flight position for the Chants.
UNF's Patrick Kotan held on in a tiebreaker in the third set to win 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 on court No. 5 to put the final score at 4-3.
Coastal (2-2) will look to carry over the momentum from the win into its next match, as the Chants will open up Sun Belt Conference play at home versus Georgia Southern on Sunday, March 14, at noon ET.
