Two Chants in Top-25 After Two Rounds at the General Hackler Championship

Coastal Carolina’s Zack Taylor carded a second-round 67 on Monday
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Fifth-year senior Zack Taylor shot a CCU low-round 67, 5-under par, on a very windy second round of play at the V1 Sports General Hackler Championship on Monday in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The Chanticleers as a team posted a round of 292, +4, and will enter the third and final round of play on Tuesday in sixth place overall at 576, even par.
No. 32 NC State carded a team-low round of 278, 10-under par, over the second round of play to climb atop of the leaderboard at 557, 19-under par, heading into the final 18 holes of play on Tuesday.
North Florida (567, -9) is in second overall, while No. 8 North Carolina (570, -6), No. 47 Louisville (574, -3), and Kent State (574, -2) round out the top five after two rounds of play.
After a first-round 71, 1-under par, on Sunday, the veteran Taylor dropped four strokes off his second-round score to card a 67, 5-under par, and climb up the leaderboard and into a tie for third place overall after 36-holes with a score of 138, 6-under par. Taylor carded two eagles, three birdies, and two bogeys on Monday, shooting a 33, 3-under par, on the front nine and a 34, 2-under par, on the back nine.
Joining Zack Taylor in the top-25 after two rounds of play is sophomore Seth Taylor with his 36-hole score of 145, +1, good enough for 24th overall. The second-year Chant, who shot a first-round 70, 2-under par, was up-and-down on Monday with three birdies, four bogeys, one double-bogey, and 10 pars over his second round of play.
The only other Chant in the lineup to shoot par or better on Monday was junior Brady Hinkle who shot a second-round 72, even par. Following a first-round 74, +2, on Sunday, Hinkle got off to a great start on Monday with three birdies and a 34, 2-under par, on the front nine before recording seven pars and two bogeys on the back nine for a 38, +2. With his rounds of 74 and 72, he heads into the final round of play in a tie for 30th overall at 146, +2.
Veteran golfer States Fort carded a second-round 78, +6, on Monday to drop into a tie for 42nd overall at 147, +3, while junior Connor Newton shot an 80, +8, to end the day in a tie for 87th overall at 157, +13.
Playing as individuals, Coastal sophomore Garrett Cooper registered a second-round 73, +1, dropping one shot of his first-round 74, +2, while teammate Jorgen Viken recorded a second-straight round of 74, +2. Cooper is in a tie for 42nd overall at 147, +3, while Viken is one stroke behind at 148, +4, and in a tie for 47th.
Fellow Chants Tyler Gray (72-77) and Viktor Olund (67-83) both struggled on Monday after solid first rounds on Sunday, while Gavin Noble (76-75) dropped one shot off his first-round 76, +4, with a second-round 75, +3, on Monday.
Gray is in a tie for 52nd overall at 149, +5, Olund is in a log jam at 57th with a 36-hole score of 150, +6, and Noble is tied for 67th with his two-round score of 151, +7.
Spectators are allowed. The course will be using a credential system so fans must report to spectator check-in upon arrival to the course.
General spectators will have access to the Waterloo Grill portion of the clubhouse, the far left side if you are standing on the putting green.
A general spectator will not be permitted in any other areas of the clubhouse, aside from the Golf Shop and Waterloo Grill area.
Spectators must remain six feet away from players and coaches at all times.
Proper social distancing protocols will be enforced and signage will be present to direct all spectators.
