No. 5 Blue Devils Drop Chanticleers 6-0

Coastal Carolina women’s soccer to wrap-up spring schedule against South Carolina

DURHAM, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team fell to the No. 5 Duke Blue Devils 6-0 in Durham, N.C., on Wednesday evening. The loss dropped the Chanticleers to 7-7 overall while Duke improved to 9-4-2 on the year.

The Blue Devils showed why they are the fifth-ranked team in the nation as they attacked early and often.

The Chanticleers were outshot 32-3 on the night by the host Blue Devils. Duke also held a 15-1 advantage in shots on goal and attempted 12 more corner kicks than CCU, which only had one attempt.

Coastal's Taylor Tolson, Santana Pressley, and Loranna Austin got off the three shots with Pressley's being on goal.

Duke's Olivia Migli (two goals) scored the eventual game-winner in the sixth minute of the match off the assist of teammate Sophie Jones. The Blue Devils would score three goals, (Tess Boade [7th minute], Migli [13th minute], and Sophie Jones [25th minute]), taking a commanding 4-0 lead before the Chants would get their first shot of the match. Boade would find the back of the net a second time in the 40th minute giving Duke the 5-0 eventual halftime advantage.

In the 43rd minute, Pressley fired a shot to the lower right portion of the goal forcing the Duke goalkeeper to make the save keeping CCU scoreless.

In the 54th minute, Marykate McGuire found the back of the net for the final time for the host Blue Devils off a rebound shot that the Chants' Ky Hudson could not corral.

Despite allowing the six goals, Coastal's Hudson made nine saves in the loss.

Coastal Carolina women's soccer will return to take on in-state foe South Carolina on Sunday, March 21. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
