CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team recorded its 10 consecutive home win at the Lynn Stevens Tennis Complex with a 6-1 victory over Appalachian State on Saturday afternoon.
The win pushes the Chants to 8-3 overall and 4-1 in league play, while the loss drops the Mountaineers to 3-8 overall and 2-3 in the Sun Belt.
With the Mountaineers forfeiting the third doubles match, the Chanticleers were able to pick up the doubles point with a 6-4 win at the No. 1 spot by the veteran duo of
Somer Dalla-Bona and
Jessie Mount at 6-4 over the App State team of Maria Zacarias and Ksenia Aleshina.
With the 1-0 match lead, CCU added to its lead with a forfeit win on court No. 6 and a pair of dominating straight-set wins by
Jesse Hollins (6-1, 6-2) on court No. 5 and Dalla-Bona (6-2, 6-1) on court No. 1 to seal the match win with a 4-0 lead.
Hollins' win pushes her winning streak to a team-high nine-straight.
CCU's
Victoire De Samucewicz followed with a 6-1, 6-3 straight-set victory on court No. 4 to put the Chants up 5-0 before the Mountaineers stole a 6-3, 6-3 win on court No. 2 by Aleshina to put the score at 5-1.
The Chants'
Kristyna Jurkova capped the win with a three-set win that saw who dominate the third-set tiebreaker at 10-0 (6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-0).
The women's tennis team returns to action on Wednesday, March 24, as the Chants will welcome the College of Charleston to the Stevens Tennis Complex. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
