CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will return home to host a Tuesday night tilt with regional foe College of Charleston this week, March 23. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. ET from Springs Brooks Stadium.
The game will be carried live on ESPN+.
RECEIVING VOTES
• The Chanticleers received votes in three of the five nationally recognized polls this week.
• Coastal received votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll, the NCBWA Poll, and the Perfect Game Top 25 Poll this week.
CHARTING THE CHANTS
• Coastal enters Tuesday's contest versus College of Charleston at 12-6 overall and has won four of its last five games.
• Tuesday's game is only the second midweek game of the season for the Chants, as their last scheduled midweek contest versus NC State on March 16 was canceled due to COVID-19 cases at NC State.
• The Chants have five players hitting over .300 on the season, including
Parker Chavers who is hitting .351 with a team-high 26 hits, six doubles, two triples, and 18 RBIs, as well as one home run and 14 runs scored.
• On the mound, the Chanticleers have allowed just 14 runs combined over the last five games and have struck out 42 hitters over 44.0 innings during that stretch.
SCOUTING THE COUGARS
• The College of Charleston Cougars are 5-9 this season and 0-1 in road contests having lost a tight 3-2 contest at Campbell on March 9.
• Tuesday's game at Coastal Carolina will be the first game for the Cougars since March 13, as the program had to take a pause due to COVID-19 protocols and procedures.
• Prior to the pause, the Cougars had won two of three games in conference play versus William & Mary (March 12-13).
• The Cougars are hitting .244 as a team on the year and have scored 60 runs over their 14 games, an average of 4.3 runs per game.
ALL-TIME SERIES
• Coastal Carolina trails the College of Charleston Cougars 23-25 in the all-time series.
• CofC has won each of the last three meetings between the two teams dating back to 2018.
• The Chants are 16-9 at home versus the CofC Cougars and will look to snap the current three-game skid in the series.
ONE WAY OR ANOTHER
• The two teams have split the last 10 meetings at five wins apiece which has included five games at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. and five games at Springs Brooks Stadium in Conway, S.C.
FIRST OF THREE
• Tuesday's contest versus Charleston will be the first of three scheduled meetings between the two regional opponents this season.
• CCU is slated to host the Cougars a second time on Wednesday, April 7, at 6 p.m. ET and then will return the game on Wednesday, May 12, at Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
MIDWEEK PLAY IN 2021
• Coastal Carolina's midweek contest this week versus the College of Charleston will be only the second midweek contest this season for the Chanticleers.
• The Chanticleers' lone midweek game to date was a 4-1, 12-inning win at then-No. 16 Wake Forest on Feb. 23.
• CCU's lone other midweek game scheduled for March 16 was canceled due to COVID-19 cases within the NC State program.
HOME SWEET HOME
• Coastal has enjoyed #ThePalace for the first part of the season, as the Chanticleers have played 14 of their first 18 games at home in Springs Brooks Stadium and have gone 9-5 at home this season.
• Last season, the Chants were 11-4 at home overall prior to the cancellation.
• In fact, CCU played just one road game last season, a loss at then-No. 7 NC State on March 4, 2020.
• Since the 2015 season, Coastal has recorded 20 wins or more at home each year, outside of last year's shortened season, and has tallied 142 wins at Springs Brooks Stadium counting this year.
CONFERENCE PLAY LOOMING
• Tuesday night's tilt versus College of Charleston will be the final non-conference tune-up before the Chanticleers open up Sun Belt Conference play on the road this weekend at Louisiana on March 26-28.
