PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Coastal Carolina's
Seth Taylor and
Zack Taylor both carded final rounds of 71, 1-under par, on Monday, as the Chanticleers moved up two spots on the team leaderboard to finish in 11th place overall at the highly-touted The Hayt in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
Coastal bounced back from a second-round team score of 308 on Sunday to shoot a 290, +2, on Monday and finish the two-day event with a 54-hole team score of 895, +31.
The Chants placed in front of No. 35 Charlotte (898, +34), Jacksonville (898, +34), and USC Upstate (922, +58).
No. 14 Clemson went on to win the event with a team score of 845, 19-under par, finishing ahead of No. 26 North Florida (856, -8), No. 1 Florida State (863, -1), No. 15 Liberty (868, +4), and UCF (869, +5).
Seth Taylor posted a top-20 finish, as he placed in a tie for 18th overall with a 54-hole score of 218, +2. The second-year Chant recorded a final-round 71, 1-under par, on Monday after posting rounds of 74 and 73 over the first two rounds of play on Sunday. He totaled 10 birdies and 34 pars over his 54 holes of play.
Also carding a final-round 71, 1-under par, was
Zack Taylor, as the fifth-year senior finished in a tie for 50th place overall at 225, +9, with rounds of 75, 79, and 71. He finished the tournament with eight pars, shooting one on round one, two on round two, and five on round three.
Finishing two strokes behind
Zack Taylor were both
Tyler Gray and
States Fort at 227, +11. Gray carded rounds of 75, 79, and 73 over his 54-holes of play, turning in seven birdies and 32 pars. Fort turned in rounds of 73, 77, and 77, which included 10 birdies and 26 pars, as well as 16 bogeys over his three rounds of play.
Rounding out the lineup for CCU was sophomore
Gavin Noble. The second-year Chant placed in a tie for 76th overall with rounds of 78, 82, and 75 for a 54-hole score of 235, +19. Shooting his best round of the tournament on Monday, he carded four birdies, eight pars, five bogeys, and one double bogey over his final round of play.
Junior
Connor Newton, who played the two-day event as an individual, recorded a second-straight round of 78, +6, on Monday to finish 68th overall with a three-round combined score of 230, +14. He posted one eagle, five birdies, and 30 pars over his rounds of 74, 78, and 78 on the week.
The Chanticleers will return to action in two weeks when they will compete at the Stitch Intercollegiate hosted by NC State at the MacGregor Downs Country Club in Cary, N.C. on April 9-10.
