Chanticleers Continue Winning Ways on Sunday

Coastal Carolina women’s tennis wins ninth-straight at home

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team swept the Georgia State Panthers 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Stevens Tennis Complex. The Chanticleers improved to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the Sun Belt Conference while the Panthers fall to 2-8 and 0-2 in the SBC.
 
The win is the ninth-straight win for the Chants at the Stevens Tennis Complex dating back to the shortened 2020 season.
 
The Chanticleers picked up the doubles point as the freshman Mathilde Tranberg and Jesse Hollins swept the duo Nansi Toskova and Denisa Gheorghe 6-0 at the number three position while the number one team of Somer Dalla-Bona and Jessie Mount won 7-5 over the Panthers' Eva Chivu and Maddy Frediani. The number two position went unfinished as CCU's Victoire De Samucewicz and Kristyna Jurkova were tied 6-6 with Ellie Aldrich and Andreea Stanescu when the doubles point was won.
 
In singles play, Hollins defeated Frediani 6-2, 6-2 at the number six position to stake the Chanticleers to a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Valentina Urelli, playing in the fifth spot, put Coastal up 3-0 with the 6-2, 6-2 victory over Toskova. The Chants' number three position closed out the match as Jurkova defeated Aldrich in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.
 
The final matches went unfinished once Coastal Carolina earned the four points for the victory. At the number two position, Tranberg trailed Stanescu 5-7, at the time the match was decided. Likewise, at the four spot, De Samucewicz was trailing in the second set 2-3, after winning the opening set 6-3 against Alexis Alvarez while Dalla-Bona was tied with Eva Chivu 6-1, 3-6 at the number one position.
 
Coastal Carolina will return to action on Saturday, March 13, as the Chanticleers will head to South Alabama. The first serve is scheduled for noon.
