– The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team dropped a Sun Belt Conference match at home to Troy 4-1 on Sunday afternoon in Conway, S.C.
CCU falls to 7-7 overall and 1-2 in SBC play with the loss while Troy moves to 19-3 overall and 3-2 in the SBC with the win.
Troy took a 1-0 lead with the Trojans' duo of Nicolas Simkin and Christopher Tasker defeating CCU's tandem of
Guilherme Toresan and
Neil O'Connor 6-1 on court two. The Chanticleer duo of
Pyry Hyrkkonen and
Diego Giraldo would defeat the Troy duo of Manuel Bernard and Pelayo Antuna 6-3 on court one before the Trojans would secure the doubles point with a 6-4 win on court three by defeating the home pair of
Daiki Tanabe and
Juan Castellanos.
The Trojans then posted a 6-3, 6-0 straight-set win at No. 6 singles to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Chants followed with a straight-set win at No. 3 by senior
Gonzalo Achondo who defeated Manuel Bernard 6-2, 6-3 to cut the Trojan lead in half.
Troy would get a straight-set decision at No. 4 as Amer Bedwan outlasted Tanabe 6-2, 6-1.
Troy would clinch the match with a win at No. 2 as Carles Anton defeated Hyrkkonen 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 to make the final score 4-1.
The Chanticleers will return to action as they host Wofford on Tuesday, April 13, at 2 p.m. ET.
