Women’s Tennis Moves on to Semifinals with 4-0 Win Over Louisiana

Chanticleers posted their first-ever win in SBC Tournament play

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – Coastal Carolina women's tennis posted a 4-0 win over (No. 2 – West) Louisiana in the quarterfinals round on Friday to move to the semifinals of the 2021 Sun Belt Women's Tennis Championship held in Peachtree City, Ga.

The win is the first victory for the Chanticleers in the Sun Belt Women's Championship Tournament, as CCU lost in the first round of the conference championship event in 2017, 2018, and 2019.

The Chants move to 14-6 overall on the season with the win and will face the (No. 1 – East) South Alabama who defeated (No. 5 – East) Troy 4-1 on Friday. The match is scheduled for 10 a.m. ET on Saturday, April 17.

Coastal opened up the match with a dominating 6-0 win at the No. 2 doubles flight by the tandem of Jesse Hollins and Victoire De Samucewicz before the Ragin' Cajuns posted a 6-3 win at the No. 1 flight to force the doubles point to be decided on court No. 3.

There, the team of Kristyna Jurkova and Valentina Urelli overcame Louisiana's duo of Lucie Raquin and Dana Radovanovic 6-4 to secure the doubles point for the Chanticleers.

Just like her team did in doubles play, Hollins cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 5 singles spot to put the Chanticleers on top 2-0 in the match.

Senior Somer Dalla-Bona followed with a 6-3, 6-4 straight-set win at No. 1 to push the Coastal lead out to 3-0 with four matches to play.

Jurkova gave the Chants the 4-0 win with a 7-5, 6-2 victory on court No. 2 to move the women in teal to the semifinals round.

CCU's De Samucewicz (6-4, 5-0) was one point away from winning her match in straight sets at No. 3, Urelli (3-6, 6-1, 1-1) was even in the third set in her match at No. 4, and senior Jessie Mount (2-6, 5-1) was about to send her match to the third and decisive set at No. 6 when the match was decided.

CCU and USA met twice in the regular season with the Jaguars winning 4-1 in Mobile, Ala. on March 13, and 4-2 in Conway, S.C. on April 3.
