Chanticleers Return Home to Host Wake Forest Tuesday Night

The midweek contest is the first of four-straight home games for CCU

CONWAY, S.C. – The Chanticleers will open up a four-game home-stand on Tuesday, May 18, as Coastal Carolina will host the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in midweek non-conference action at Springs Brooks Stadium. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m. ET.

The midweek non-conference matchup will be broadcast on ESPN+, as well as on the radio at WRNN Hot Talk 99.5 FM.

SCOUTING THE DEMON DEACONS
• The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are 17-26 overall and 7-22 in the ACC this season.
• Wake Forest enters the Tuesday night tilt on a three-game losing streak, having been swept at Virginia in ACC play last weekend (May 14-16).
• The Deacs are 7-14 on the road this season and have dropped each of their last six road matchups dating back to April 23.
• Wake Forest as a team is hitting .252 on the season with 77 home runs, one triple, 68 doubles, 253 RBIs, and 267 runs scored.
• The pitching staff has a 5.59 ERA on the year but has struck out 442 batters over 377.0 innings pitched.

ALL-TIME SERIES
• Coastal Carolina holds a 25-16 advantage in the all-time series with the Demon Deacons which dates back to 1977.
• After not playing from 1987 to 2006, the two teams have played each other every year since with the lone exception being the 2012 season.
• With the 4-1 extra-inning win over the Demon Deacons (Feb. 23) in the first month of the season, Coastal has won six-straight over Wake Forest after the Deacs swept the two-game regular-season series in 2017.

HOME RUN DERBY
• Tuesday night's matchup will include two teams that have hit a combined 129 home runs this season.
• Wake Forest has hit 77 home runs this season, the sixth-most in all of NCAA Division 1.
• Coastal has blasted 52 long balls this year, which ranks 50th in the nation.

FULL CIRCLE
• Coastal Carolina's final midweek game of the 2021 regular season this week will come against the Chanticleers' first midweek opponent of the season in Wake Forest.
• CCU defeated the Demon Deacons 4-1 in 12 innings back on Feb. 23 in Winston-Salem, N.C.

MIDWEEK MADNESS
• The Chanticleers are 4-2 this year in midweek contests with four-straight midweek wins over Wake Forest (Feb. 23), College of Charleston (March 23), UNCW (April 14), and North Carolina (April 20).
• However, CCU has dropped each of its last midweek matchups both of which came versus UNCW (April 27 & 28).
• This season, the Chanticleers have also had four midweek games canceled, including this last week's Wednesday night (May 12) contest at the College of Charleston due to rain and inclement weather.
• The other three midweek cancellations came versus NC State (March 16), against UNCW (April 6), and versus the College of Charleston (April 7) due to COVID-19 reasons.

FINALLY HOME
• Coastal enjoyed #ThePalace for the first part of the season, as the Chanticleers played 15 of their first 19 games at home in Springs Brooks Stadium, going 10-5 at home during that span.
• However, since March 23, a home win over the College of Charleston, the Chants have played just seven games at Springs Brooks Stadium in the three-game weekend series versus Georgia Southern (April 16-18), a Tuesday night midweek tilt versus UNCW (April 27), and another three-game weekend series versus Troy (May 7-9).
• The midweek contest versus Wake Forest on Tuesday night will be the first of four consecutive home games for the Chanticleers to wrap up the 2021 regular season.
• Since the 2015 season, Coastal has recorded 20 wins or more at home each year, outside of last year's shortened season, and has tallied 144 wins at Springs Brooks Stadium counting this year.

NOMADS
• After playing just one road game over the first five weeks of the season, a win at Wake Forest (Feb. 23), the Chanticleers have played 22 of their last 30 games on the road.
• Coastal Carolina has played just three games at home this month and just seven games over the last month.

#14 CHASING 1000
• CCU head coach Gary Gilmore enters the week with 996 career wins as the head coach of his alma mater Coastal Carolina.
• That puts #14 just four wins away from 1,000 career wins over his 26 years at CCU.
