Coastal Tennis Programs Again Earn ITA Academic Honors

CCU tennis had a combined 17 student-athletes earn ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition
SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Coastal Carolina men's and women's tennis teams were both tabbed 2021 Division I Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Teams. In addition, the women's team had eight student-athletes recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes while the men's team had nine earn the individual academic honor.
The ITA All-Academic Team Award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 or above on a 4.00 scale. All varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a student-athlete must be a varsity letter winner, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
For the second-straight year, the women's tennis team and head coach Catherine Hewitt had eight student-athletes named ITA Scholar-Athletes in Somer Dalla-Bona, Victoire De Samucewicz, Jesse Hollins, Jessie Mount, Mathilde Tranberg, Valentina Urelli, Iryna Vardanian, and Isabella Weatherhead.
It is the 23rd consecutive year that the women have received ITA All-Academic Team honors.
The Chanticleer men's team and head coach Chris Powers had nine student-athletes receive scholar-athlete recognition in Gonzalo Achondo, Juan Castellanos, Francesco Cori, Federico Garnier, Pyry Hyrkkonen, Jerome Iaconi, Neil O'Connor, Daiki Tanabe, and Guilherme Toresan.
The Chanticleer men have received ITA All-Academic Team honors in 16 of the last 17 seasons.
