RICHMOND, Va. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team dropped its third consecutive match, a 2-0 loss on the road at Richmond Sunday afternoon.
The Chanticleers fall to 2-3-1 overall as they head into Sun Belt play, while Richmond improves to 2-4-1 overall.
Just four minutes into the contest, Carleigh Frilles took the Chants' first of three shots in the half, but the sophomore's shot would be off-target to the far left. Richmond would take its first of 13 total shots on the day just a minute after Frilles', but that shot was off target to the right. For the remainder of the first half, neither team was able to break the scoreline and the two teams headed into the break tied at 0-0.
It was a tale of two halves, as the Spiders tallied their first goal of the contest 13th minutes into the second half. Just seven minutes later, Richmond's Molly Wierman put the hosts up 2-0. CCU's first shot of the second half came in the 75th minute, as Casey O'Connor's shot was blocked.
Richmond ended the afternoon with a 13-5 shooting advantage, while Coastal recorded a 4-2 advantage in shots on frame. Frilles finished the contest with a team-leading three shots, one on goal for the Chants while Lou Martinet and O'Connor each tallied one shot. CCU found the advantage in saves 2-1, while also tallying a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Coastal Carolina ends their three-game road stretch at Texas State on Thursday. The Chanticleers are set to begin Sun Belt action at 7:00 p.m. ET in San Marcos, Texas.
