SAN MARCOS, TX – In Coastal Carolina's first Sun Belt game of the 2021 campaign, Texas State defeated the Chanticleers 2-1, with just one second left in the first overtime period, in a hard-fought match on Thursday night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
With the loss, CCU drops to 2-4-1 overall and 0-1-0 in Sun Belt while the Bobcats improve to 4-2-1 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play.
Junior Megan Brouse tallied her first goal of the season in the 17th minute as she connected on a cross from fellow Chanticleer Sarah Allen to put the Chants up 1-0. Allen looked to put the visitors up but she shot 10 minutes later was saved. Both teams looked to notch another goal over the remainder of the half but were unsuccessful.
Texas State tied the contest at 1-all just 11 minutes following the halftime break, as Bailey Peschel played a ball off her chest and was able to find the back of the net. 90 minutes wasn't enough and Coastal was headed to its third overtime match of the season.
With just one second left in the first overtime period, the Bobcats' Trinity Clark played the rebound and found the back of the net for the golden goal.
TXST ended the night with a 25-18 shooting advantage and a 7-9 shots on frame edge. Carleigh Frilles finished the contest with a game-high six shots, two on goal for the Chants. CCU found the advantage in saves 7-6.
Coastal Carolina returns to CCU Soccer Stadium and welcomes App State to Conway on Sunday. Kickoff is set for noon ET.
