(RV) Chanticleers Net Four in Second-Straight Victory

CCU Blanks USC Upstate

CONWAY, S.C. – Behind its second consecutive victory of the 2021 season, the (RV) Coastal Carolina men's soccer team defeated USC Upstate 4-0 on Tuesday evening at CCU Soccer Stadium.

With the win, the Chanticleers improve to 2-1-2 overall and remain unbeaten at 1-0-2 in conference play while the Spartans fall to 1-4-1 overall.

"Again, I'm very pleased," said head coach Shaun Docking. "We've got a new group and they're coming along each game, each week. I am excited for the guys. We were able to get a lot of guys minutes tonight and we're looking forward to playing [again] Saturday."

Emile Rzepecki started the scoring frenzy for CCU as the Chants were awarded a penalty kick just two minutes into the match that the junior converted on to put the host up 1-0. Just 15 minutes later, Nicholas Itopoulos connected on a pass from Lucio Berron in the 17th minute, which he shot from nearly 40-yards out, increasing CCU's lead to 2-0.

In the 66th minute, freshman Alvaro Garcia-Pasqual tallied his fourth goal of the season as he was given a through ball from fellow Chant Michael Fowler, increasing the host's lead to 3-0. Just two minutes later, off a Mads Poulsson corner kick, Peter Dearle leapt above the traffic to head in a shot towards the near post where Marcello Jones chipped in the Chanticleers' final goal.

Tuesday's match saw seven yellow cards, all in the second half.

Coastal Carolina tallied 14 shots, with four on frame while USC Upstate took just eight total shots – none on frame. The Chants also found the edge in corner kicks at 5-2, while the visitors recorded five saves to CCU's none.

The Chanticleers now return to Conference USA play and travel to face Old Dominion on Saturday, Sept. 18. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. ET from ODU Soccer Complex in Norfolk, Va.
