CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up their second competition of the young season Friday evening at the Queen City Invite hosted by the Queens University of Charlotte. The women competed in the 5k event while the men ran in an 8k event at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, N.C.
The CCU's women's team placed 11th out of 32 teams tallying 353 points while the men's team fared one spot better in 10th of 34 teams with 346 points.
Freshman Amilia Wise-Sweat paced the Chanticleers women's team with a 44th place finish with a personal best time of 18:48 while Ashley Rulison finished in 54th with her time of 19:03.
Ashley Dalleske, Jessica Martin, Isabelle Gulick, and Mia Sheldon finished out the race in 78th, 91st, 114th, and 154th, with each setting personal best times in the 5k event. Dalleske raced to a 19:35 time while Martin, Gulick, and Sheldon finished with 19:50, 20:39, and 21:33, respectively.
For the second straight meet, all the men set personal records. Newcomer Garrett Bivens was the first Chant to cross the finish line for the men while Monroe Thompkins, Jack Benoit, Michael Welsh Jr., Cory Fleeman, Tomas Duncan, and Kaden Buchler followed in order.
Bivens navigated the 8k course with a time of 24:59. Thompkins finished in 41st with his time of 25:23 while Benoit ran 26:13 for a 76th place finish. Welsh (26:44), Fleeman (27:49), Duncan (27:51), and Buchler (28:48) closed out the race in 114th, 173rd, 175th, and 211th, respectively.
Coastal Carolina will host the Chanticleer Challenge on Friday, Oct. 1 at the Hackler Golf Course.
