Kellogg picks up six saves in the loss

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team went on the road Sunday afternoon to face Georgia Southern in a Sun Belt Conference matchup, but fell to the Eagles 3-0.

With the loss, the Chanticleers drop to 2-9-3 overall and 1-5-1 in SBC play. The Eagles move to 5-3-5 overall and 4-1-2 in league action with the win.

Georgia Southern came out on the attack and scored on the opening corner kick of the match only 93 seconds into the contest. Maya Zovko picked up a loose ball off the corner kick at the back post to give the Eagles a lead they would not surrender. That goal held up through the rest of the first half.

CCU and Georgia Southern would play to a draw over the next 69 minutes until the Eagles broke through again with a goal off the foot of Elis Nemtsov to give GS a 2-0 lead. Emma Armstrong and Cathey Smith picked up a double assist on the goal.

Georgia Southern put the match away in the 81st minute when Armstrong picked up a goal on a double assist from Kendall Wilson and Courtney Jebavy.

Both teams had several shots throughout the match with the hosts finishing with 20 shots and CCU 14. Nine of Georgia Southern's shots were on goal, while the Chants finished the match with three shots on goal.

Megan Brouse led CCU with six shots, two of which were on goal. Mackenzie Milliman had two shots with one being on frame.

Katelyn Kellogg made the start in goal for CCU and picked up six saves while playing all 90 minutes.

The Chants will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m. ET, when they host Marshall at the CCU Soccer Stadium.
