Chanticleers were a combined 12-2 in singles play on the day

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team totaled 14 wins overall on Friday – 12 in singles action and two more in doubles play – on day one of the Lynn Stevens Memorial Invitational in Conway, S.C.

Coastal kicked off the first day of play with doubles action versus Appalachian State, as the two Sun Belt Conference foes split the four matches with two wins apiece.

CCU's victories came from the pair of Lilie Steryous and Jesse Hollins on court No. 1, as the duo cruised to a 6-3 win, and on court No. 4 by way of a 6-4 win from Megan Hopton and Isabella Weatherhead.

In singles action on day one, the Chants played both Queens University of Charlotte and Charleston Southern.

In the first singles bout, the home-standing Chants defeated Queens 7-1, with seven of the eight contests ending in straight sets.

Newcomer Kata Foldeak picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win on court No. 2, while fellow first-year Chant Steryous won 6-4, 6-2 on court No. 3.

The winning ways continued for CCU, as Tatum Burger scored a 6-3, 6-2 win on court No. 4, Anna Babayan won 6-1, 6-1 on court No. 5, and Hollins posted a 6-0, 6-3 win on court No. 6.

Victorious in doubles play to start the day, the Coastal duo of Hopton and Weatherhead both won in straight sets in singles action versus Queens, as Hopton won 6-1, 6-3, while Weatherhead won in dominant fashion at 6-1, 6-0.

The Chanticleers stayed hot in singles play, going 5-1 overall with wins on courts No. 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6 over the Charleston Southern Buccaneers.

On court No. 1, Victoire De Samucewicz won in straight sets 6-2, 6-1, while her doubles partner Foldeak won in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 on court No. 2.

The Chants picked up a dominating win from Babayan on court No. 6 at 6-1, 6-1, while her doubles partner Burger won 7-6 (5), 6-2 on court No. 4. The Chants capped the day with a 6-2, 7-6 (2) win from Hollins on court No. 5.

The Chanticleers will return to action tomorrow for day two of play beginning at 10 a.m. ET.
