CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team collided with the College of Charleston on Wednesday afternoon at the Stevens Tennis Complex.  It proved to be a back and forth affair, but the host Chanticleers dropped a 4-3 decision to the Cougars.
 
The Chants opened the match with victories in two out of the three doubles contests.  Victoire De Samucewicz and Jesse Hollins doubled up Kate Earnhardt and Elizabeth Nowak 6-3 in the second flight. 
 
In the decisive matchup, Valentina Urelli and Anna Babayan rallied late to earn a 7-5 triumph over Maja Jekauc and McKenzie Daniel and stake CCU to an early lead.
 
In singles action, CCU tallied the first two victories.  Anna Babayan raced past Kate Earnhardt in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 on court four, while on court six Jesse Hollins earned a 6-2, 6-3 win over Victoria Walker. 
 
However, the Cougars withstood a trio of late charges. In the top flight, De Samucewicz battled against Coetzee, but the latter claimed a 7-6, 7-6 win.  In the fifth flight, Urelli and Nowak needed the third set to complete their matchup, where Nowak won 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 and tied the match at three-all. 
 
It all came down to court two, where Halli Trinkle needed all three sets to edge Mathilde Tranberg 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
 
Next up for the Chanticleers (3-3 overall) is a trip up to the Queen City on Friday afternoon for an 11 a.m. ET showdown against the Charlotte 49ers.
