TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Coastal Carolina University women's golf team started play at the Florida State University Match-Up with a 23-over 311 during Friday's first round.
The par-72, 6,255-yard course played tough on each of the 12 participating teams as none teams finished under par for the round.
CCU's 23-over 311 has the Chants 11th after the first round with
Caitlin Evans-Brand leading CCU with a three-over 75 (37-38), to enter the second round tied for 19th.
Only three shots behind Evans-Brand was teammate
Jenjira Jinangkul with a six-over 78 (38-40) and is tied for 42nd.
Tiffany Arafi (43-36) and
Sophia Carlsen (39-40) each finished the round after carding a seven-over 79 and are tied for 46th.
Sara Sarrion finished the round tied for 52nd after shooting an eight-over 80 (40-40).
Event host Florida State and Virginia Tech finished the day at even par 288 and are at the top of the standings. Oregon is only two shots behind after shooting a 290, while Oregon State (296) is fourth, and Arizona (300) and Clemson (300) are tied for fifth.
Miami leads the rest of the field after shooting a 304 and Kent State is one stroke back with a 305. Mercer is ninth after carding a 307. MTSU is just two strokes in front of the Chanticleers after finishing the day with a 309 and Missouri trails CCU after shooting a 314.
