HENDERSON, Nev. – The Coastal Carolina University men's golf team shot a nine-over 297 in Tuesday's second round at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate. The Chants have a two-day total 587 (290-297) and will enter the final round in 11th place.
Tyler Gray was the Chanticleer leader on day two shooting a two-under 70 (33-37). He is tied for 22nd entering the third round with an even-par 144 (74-70). Also tied for 22nd is teammate
Connor Newton. After an opening-day 68, Newton shot a four-over 76 in today's action to finish with a 144 (68-76).
After entering today's action at even par,
Seth Taylor shot a solid two-over in Tuesday's round and is tie for 35th with a two-over 146 (72-74).
Trey Crenshaw and
Luke Nelson had some struggles in their round. Crenshaw shot a seven-over 79 (41-38) and is tied for 71
st with an 11-over 155 (76-79), while Nelson shot a five-over 77 (37-40) in today's action and is tied for 78
th at 13-over 157 (80-77).
Garrett Cooper continued his solid play, shooting an even-par 72 (35-37) in today's round. He is tied for 35
th at two-over 145 (74-72).
The overall event tightened up in the second round as only 11 strokes separates the top seven teams. West Virginia has moved into the lead with an 11-under 565. Only two strokes back is UAB at nine-under 567. Another two strokes separate Utah from UAB with a seven-under 569. Sun Belt member Little Rock moved into fourth place at five-under (571), and Kentucky is fifth at four-under (572).
Sixth-place Oregon State is three-under (573) and St. Mary's, the leader after the first round, fell to seventh at even-par (576). Another Sun Belt program Arkansas State, is tied for eighth place with High Point, as both teams are five-over (581). Michigan is just four strokes ahead of the Chants at seven-over (583).
Following CCU are Kansas City (+13, 589), Louisiana (+17, 593), Georgia State (+30, 606), and Rocky Mountain College (+42, 618).
