MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men's golf team shot a 12-over 200 in Sunday's first round of the Hackler Championship at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach on Sunday.
Due to a delay of over two hours to start the first round of action because of cold weather and a frost, the second round was suspended due to darkness. The teams will return to the course to finish the second round on Monday before concluding the day with the third and final round.
Tyler Gray and
Connor Newton led the Chanticleers as both finished the first round at even-par 72. Gray carded his par on a 39-33 effort, while Newton went 37-35 for his score. They are tied for 20th.
Seth Taylor and
Garrett Cooper also carded identical scores of six-over 78. Tucker went 41-37 in picking up his score, while Cooper shot just the opposite, scoring a 37-41. Both are tied for 21st.
Trey Crenshaw shot a seven-over 79 (38-41) over the first round. He is tied for 79th.
The Chanticleers have the rest of their players playing as individuals in the Hackler with
Gavin Noble leading that group tied for 25th with a one-over 73.
Viktor Olund is tied for 57th after shooting a four-over and
Trace McDonald's seven-over has him tied for 74th.
Luke Nelson (+9) is 84th and
Holden Grigg (+12) is 87th.
Auburn leads the field after shooting a seven-under 281 to start the action. South Carolina is one shot back (-6, 282), while East Tennessee State (-4, 284) is third. Oklahoma State (-1, 287) is fourth and Virginia (+1, 289) is fifth.
NC State (+3, 291) is sixth, Liberty is seventh (+4, 292), and ECU is eighth (+6, 294) followed by UNF (+8, 296). In a log jam at 10th with the Chants at +12, 300 is Kent State, Penn State, and UCF. UNCG (+13,301) and Louisville (+14, 302) round out the field.
The second round will begin at 9:30 a.m. ET, followed by the third and final round immediately after.
