MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men's golf team shot a four-under 284 in Monday's final round of the Hackler Championship at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach to finish tied for 11
th with a 10-over 874 (300-290-284).
The day started with the completion of the second round which was suspended Sunday due to a late start caused by the weather. The Chants four-under in the third round was CCU's best round of the event and moved them up into a tie for 11th place after entering the third round in 12th.
Tyler Gray shot a five-under 67 in today's round was CCU's leader finishing tied for ninth with a five-under 211 (72-72-67).
Connor Newton shot a four-under 68 in the final round to finish tied for 17th with a three-under 213 (72-73-68).
Garrett Cooper had an even-par 72 in today's action and finished the event tied for 58th with a seven-over 223 (78-73-72).
Seth Taylor shot an 11-over 227 (78-72-77) to finish tied for 69th while
Trey Crenshaw finished 85th after a 19-over 235 (80-78-77).
The rest of the team played as individuals with
Gavin Noble leading that group finishing tied for 63rd with an 8-over 224 (73-70-76).
Viktor Olund and
Luke Nelson tied for 72nd after each finished with a 12-over 228.
Trace McDonald finished tied for 76th with a 13-over 229 while
Holden Grigg finished 87th with a 29-over 245.
Auburn won the Hackler with a 25-under 839, outdistancing South Carolina by three strokes (-22, 842). ETSU (-18, 846) was third while Oklahoma State (-16, 848) and Virginia (-4, 860) completed the top five.
Former Hackler champion North Florida and N.C. State finished tied for sixth at -2, 862 and Kent State (-1, 963) finished eighth. Liberty and Louisville finished tied for ninth at 6-over 870, and ECU joined CCU tied for 11th. UCF (+15, 879), UNCG (+17, 881), and Penn State (+22, 886) rounded out the field.
The Chants will be back in action March 27-28 when they play at The Hayt in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., at the Sawgrass Country Club.
