COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's and women's track & field programs wrapped up competition at the Weems Baskin Invitational on Saturday in Columbia, S.C.
In the women's 100-meter dash invite,
Kayla Sweeney edged the field for the victory with a time of 11.58 seconds.
Mariah McCord (11.98) and
Zahria Jones (12.06) also earned eighth and 15th place finishes, respectively, in the event.
Melissa Jefferson, who won the NCAA Indoor National Championship in the 60-meter event on March 12, claimed the top spot in the 200-meter dash by crossing the line in 23.26 seconds.
Jermaisha Arnold also finished in the top 10, placing ninth (24.48).
Arnold (53.74) and
Amaryah White (56.10) placed in the top 10 for the 400-meter dash invite, finishing second and sixth, respectively. Fellow Chants
Ashley Rulison notched an eighth-place finish (2:23.08) in the 800-meter run, while
Amilia Wise-Sweat finished fourth (4:47.35) in the 1500-meter run invite.
Shani'a Bellamy earned a spot on the podium with her third-place finish (13.66) in the 100-meter hurdles, while
Sydney Clemens came home fourth (13.76).
The 4x100 meter relay team of Jefferson, Sweeney, Bellamy, and
Mekenze Kelley also tallied a second-place finish with a time of 44.41, which set a new school record in the event. The 4x400 relay team of Kelley, Arnold, White, and
Nya McGowan finished fifth in their event with their time of 3:49.27.
Camryn Lock placed fourth in the high jump invite with a leap of 1.60 meters, while both
Kadasia Evans and
Nikki Boon tied for sixth place in the high jump with identical marks of 1.50 meters.
Alexis Estep notched a 10-place finish with a throw of 12.33 meters in the shot put.
On the men's side,
Reggie Barlow placed in a tie for eighth in the 100-meter dash invite with a time of 10.60 seconds.
Jeremiah Talbert earned a top-10 spot in the 400-meter dash invite, placing sixth (47.98), while
Garrett Bivens finished seventh (3:59.65) in the 1500-meter run. In the 110-meter hurdles,
Tyler Graves claimed the top spot with his time of 13.99, while
Jaquon Williams also finished fifth in the hurdles event with his time of 14.40. Graves also notched a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles event (53.51).
The 4x100 meter relay team of Barlow, Talbert,
Ty Floyd, and
Garrett Wilkins earned a fifth-place finish (40.66).
In the high jump event, freshman
Cole Castro cleared the bar at 1.80-meters to earn a fourth-place finish.
Coastal's track & field teams will be back in action on Friday, April 15, when they participate in the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, Florida.
