DELAND, Fla. – The Coastal Carolina beach volleyball team would fall in both matches on day one of the Stetson Beach Bash, falling to both No. 18 Stetson and No. 19 FIU by a score of 5-0 in both matches.
The two losses dropped Coastal to 15-6 overall on the season.
No. 18 Stetson 5, Coastal Carolina 0
Coastal would get the day started with a dual against the host Stetson, falling to the nationally-ranked No. 18 Hatters 5-0 in the first match of the day.
The Chants would battle in all five flights with the Hatters and would only take one set from the home side.
At the No. 2 flight, the team of
Natalie Honzovicova and
Ellie Hanford bounced back from a first-set 21-10 loss to take the second set 21-17. However, Stetson's pair of Anete Namike and Carolina Ferraris held off the Chants' duo to pick up a 15-9 third-set win and take the 2-1 match victory.
In the No. 4 flight, the pair of
Emma Gonzalez and
Madison Allred pushed the tandem of Aleksandra Stadnik and Klea Sirois of Stetson to the limit in both sets, falling 30-28, 21-19.
No. 19 FIU 5, Coastal Carolina 0
The Sandy Chants would suffer another setback on the day falling to the No. 19 FIU Panthers 5-0 to close out day one of play at the Stetson Beach Bash.
The No. 19 Panthers would jump out to a 3-0 lead when they picked up wins on courts No. 5 (21-12, 22-20), No. 4 (21-12, 12-21, 15-12), and No. 3 (21-16, 21-17).
On court No. 4, the Chants' team of
Madie Lichty and
Elena Sanchez pushed the match to three sets with a 21-12 second-set win, yet came up just short in the third set with a 15-13 loss to drop the match.
The Panthers would close out the dual with back-to-back straight-set victories on courts No. 1 and 2 to complete the 5-0 sweep.
