CCU earns third win in last four matches

JONESBORO, Ark. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team made a road trip for a Sun Belt Conference showdown with the Arkansas State Red Wolves. For the second match in a row, the Chants kept an opponent off the scoreboard, blanking the Red Wolves 4-0.

Coastal Carolina started strong in doubles play, as Anna Babayan and Megan Hopton cruised to a 6-1 win on court three. The Red Wolves then forced a split of the first two matches with a win of their own on court two.

The attention shifted to the top flight as Coastal's Victoire De Samucewicz and Jesse Hollins battled Thea Rice and Nejla Zukic in the decisive match for the doubles point. De Samucewicz and Hollins emerged from the contest with a 7-6 (8-6) win, staking the Chants to a 1-0 lead.

Paola Landin Lopez struck first in singles play, losing only one game en route to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Zukic on court three. Hollins followed suit, as she pulled away for a 6-2, 6-1 straight-set victory over Yasmine Humbert on court six.

Just a few moments later, Babayan secured the overall match victory for the Chants on court five with a 6-4, 6-4 straight-set triumph over Sofia Vdovychenko.

Next up for Coastal Carolina (9-7, 4-2 SBC) is a home match against Louisiana-Monroe at 10 a.m. ET on Friday, April 1.
