Chants Fall to Trojans in Sun Belt Conference Tournament

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team faced the Troy Trojans in the first round of the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Men's Championship Tournament on Thursday, where the Chants dropped a 4-1 decision to the Trojans.
The Chants started strong in doubles action, winning two of the three matches in that portion of the contest. Diego Giraldo and Steve Mundt defeated Christopher Tasker and Nicolas Simkin 6-2 in the top flight. The doubles point was decided on court three, where Coastal's Federico Garnier and Daiki Tanabe edged Carles Anton and Javier Llinares by a 6-4 margin, giving CCU a 1-0 lead.
In singles play, the Chants battled but dropped several close matches to the Trojans. Noah Martens defeated Tanabe 6-3, 7-6 (5-4) on court four, while Mundt fell to Tasker 7-5, 6-4 on court six. In the third flight, Giraldo fell to Simkin 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, while Anton edged Garnier 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 on court two.
Coastal Carolina finished the season at 10-11 overall, with a 3-3 mark in Sun Belt Conference play.
