Chants Open Road Trip at UNCG on Wednesday Afternoon

Coastal will take on the Spartans at 3 p.m. ET on Wednesday

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina baseball team will kick off a four-game road trip this week on Wednesday, May 11, with a midweek non-conference road game at UNC Greensboro in Greensboro, N.C. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. ET.

The midweek non-conference matchup will be streamed live on ESPN+ and will be carried live on Hank 105.5 FM.

ABOUT THE CHANTS
• Coastal Carolina enters the contest at UNCG on Wednesday at 29-15-1 overall and 11-9 on the season in true road contests.
• The Chanticleers have won 13 of their last 15 games and 11 of their last 12 conference games with sweeps over Appalachian State (April 14-16) and UTA (April 22-24), a 2-1 series win on the road at Georgia Southern (April 29-May 1), and a home sweep over Little Rock (May 6-8).
• Coastal went 4-0 last week, with all four wins coming at home, and outscored its opponents 59-20 in the four contests.
• Six Chants in Tyler Johnson (.383), Eric Brown (.325), Austin White (.303), Graham Brown (.295), Nick Lucky (.294), and Dale Thomas (.293) are all hitting over .290 on the season, while six different Chants have driven in 30 or more RBIs on the year.
• The Chants' pitching staff has posted a 4.61 ERA on the season and struck out 407 batters over 392.0 innings, while also holding the opponents to a .254 batting average on the year.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS
• UNCG enters the week at 22-25 overall and 7-8 in Southern Conference play this season.
• The Spartans, who are 13-13 at home this season, have won each of their last three SoCon weekend series, including a 2-1 series win versus VMI last time out (May 6-8).
• UNCG has done it with the offense this season, as the Spartans are hitting .302 overall as a team with 35 home runs, 14 triples, 95 doubles, 315 runs scored, and 300 RBIs.
• Eight different players are hitting over .300 on the season, led by Hogan Windish and his team-leading average of .407 with a team-high 10 home runs.
• However, the Achilles heel has been the pitching, as the Spartans' staff has posted a 5.46 ERA and struck out just 391 hitters over 414.0 innings.

ALL-TIME SERIES HISTORY WITH UNCG
• Coastal Carolina trials UNCG 5-11 in the all-time series, which dates back to 1994.
• However, the Chants have won each of the last two meetings between the two teams and three of the last four since 2014.

MIDWEEK MUDDLE
• Coastal is 4-3 this season in midweek play with wins at home versus then-No. 30 Wake Forest (March 8) and most recently UNCW (May 3), and on the road at then-No. 20 Clemson (March 22) and the College of Charleston (April 26).
• The three midweek losses have come on the road at UNCW (March 2), Wake Forest (March 30), and Charlotte (April 19).
• CCU has had its midweek game at NC State (March 16) washed out, while a second contest was suspended in the seventh inning and will be completed at a later date this year (College of Charleston - April 6).

VERSUS THE TAR HEEL STATE
• This season, the Chanticleers have struggled against teams from the Tar Heel State.
• Coastal is just 5-5 versus teams that call the state of North Carolina home with three wins over Appalachian State (April 14-16) in Sun Belt Conference play and midweek home wins over Wake Forest (March 8) and UNCW (May 3).
• The four losses have all come in the state of North Carolina, with a midweek road loss at UNCW (March 2), three losses at nationally-ranked North Carolina (March 4-6), and another midweek defeat at Wake forest (March 30).

ON THE ROAD IN 2022
• Coastal will wrap up its road season this week with four consecutive road games at UNCG (May 11) and Troy (May 13-15).
• The Chants are 11-9 on the road this season and have won nine of their last 11 road games.
• After starting the season losing each of their first four road games (0-4), all of which came in the state of North Carolina, the Chanticleers have won eight of their last 12 road bouts, including wins at then-No. 20 Clemson (March 22), at then-No. 9 Texas State (March 26), and three games each at Arkansas State (April 1-3) and Appalachian State (April 14-16).
• The Chants had won six consecutive road games to start the month of April before falling at Charlotte (April 19) in midweek play.
• CCU got back on the winning track on the road on a Tuesday night (April 26) with a 17-7 win at the College of Charleston and then took two of three games on the road at then nationally-ranked Georgia Southern (April 29-May 1).

HOME. SWEET. HOME.
• Coastal enjoyed #ThePalace for the first eight games of the season and the month of February.
• After playing four games on the road in the first week of March - at UNCW (March 2) and North Carolina (March 4-6) - the Chanticleers returned home for what turned out to be a seven-game homestand versus Wake Forest (March 8), Xavier (March 11-13), and ULM (March 18-20).
• Coastal suffered a three-game series sweep at home to Georgia State (April 8-10) but most recently bounced back to record a sweep of its own with three consecutive wins over UTA (April 22-24), posted a 16-1 blowout win over UNCW (May 3) in midweek play, and then trounced the Little Rock Trojans in a three-game series sweep (May 6-8) last time out.
• The Chanticleers are 18-6-1 at home this season.

JUST WIN, BABY
• Coastal heads into play this week fourth in the Sun Belt Conference regular-season standings at 16-7-1 overall and just 3.5 games out of first place with two weekends of conference play remaining.
• The Chanticleers have an RPI of 44 with eight games to play, which is the third-highest in the Sun Belt behind Georgia Southern (5) and Texas State (38).
• With that said, the Chants control their own conference postseason and NCAA Regional destiny by just winning.
