LAFAYETTE, La. – The Coastal Carolina men's and women's track & field teams returned to action for day two of the 2022 Sun Belt Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday in Lafayette, La.
WOMEN (7th of 10 – 17 points)
Nikki Boon took part in the final three phases of the heptathlon – long jump, javelin, and 800-meters – and claimed a top-three spot in all of them. She posted a pair of third-place finishes in the long jump (5.41M) and 800-meters (2:23.58, a NEW personal best) while claiming second place in the javelin (39.59M). As a result, Boon earned a third-place overall finish in the heptathlon with 5,061 points. The 5,061 points are the most by a Chanticleer in the heptathlon event in program history.
During the women's long jump event,
Kayla Ulmer set a new personal best leap of 5.08 meters, while
Camryn Lorick finished seventh in the high jump at 1.65M.
Shani'a Bellamy and
Alexis Glasco qualified for the 100-meter hurdles final on Saturday. Bellamy finished third in the prelims on Friday with a new personal best time of 13.59, which is the third-fastest time in CCU history. Bellamy was followed by Glasco in fourth at 13.65.
Sydney Clemens also finished eighth with her time of 14.01 in the preliminary round.
Melissa Jefferson,
Kayla Sweeney, and Bellamy each advanced to the 100-meter finals. Jefferson claimed the top spot with a time of 11.37, while Sweeney finished third (11.71) and Bellamy in eighth (11.85) in the preliminaries. Glasco also set a new personal best mark during the event with a time of 11.94.
Three more Chants in
Jermaisha Arnold,
Mekenze Kelley, and
Amaryah White all moved on to the 400-meter finals on Saturday. Arnold qualified first overall (53.38), followed by Kelley in second (53.73), and White in seventh (55.52).
Amilia Wise-Sweat also qualified for the 800-meter finals with a fourth-place finish at 2:14.40.
MEN (9th of 10 – 3 points)
Tyler Graves qualified for the 110-meter hurdles final on Saturday with a time of 14.02, which put him in fourth place.
Jeremiah Talbert finished seventh in the 400-meters preliminary round with a time of 48.16, which advanced him to the finals.
Reggie Barlow also moved on to the 100-meter final with a sixth-place finish at 10.60, while
Ty Floyd posted a new personal best of 10.69 in the sprint event.
