ALL-TIME SERIES HISTORY WITH SOUTH ALABAMA
• Coastal holds a slight 11-9 advantage over the South Alabama Jaguars in the all-time series, including a 4-2 edge in home contests in Conway.
• However, the Jaguars have won each of the last three meetings between the two teams, including ending the Chants' season last year with a 14-7 win in pool play at the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship Tournament.
RIDING THE COASTAL WAVE
• Coastal has been riding a wave of momentum the last month and it has come at the right time as the regular season comes to an end this week with South Alabama (May 19-21).
• The Chants have won four consecutive games entering the series with the Jaguars this week.
• CCU has also won eight-straight home games heading into the final home series of the regular season with the Jaguars.
• Coastal has also won nine of its last 10 games overall, 13 of its last 15 games, and 17 of its last 20 games over the last month.
SUN BELT CONFERENCE PLAY
• The Chanticleers immediately turned heads in the Sun Belt Conference in their first season in the league in 2017, going 22-7-1 in conference play to win both the Sun Belt Conference East Division and Sun Belt Conference Regular-Season championships.
• Coastal went on to repeat in 2018 and added the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship title, posting a 23-7 regular-season conference record along the way.
• Despite slipping to 15-13 in conference play and finishing fifth in the regular-season standings in 2019, the Chanticleers ran through the Sun Belt Conference Tournament to repeat as tournament champions.
• After 2020 was canceled, the Chants had their worst conference season in over 25 years in 2021, finishing the conference regular-season slate at 9-12 overall.
• This year, CCU is 19-7-1 in Sun Belt Conference play, which includes five Sun Belt Conference series sweeps over Arkansas State, Appalachian State, UTA, Little Rock, and Troy, as well as a road series win at then-nationally-ranked Georgia Southern.
PIVOTAL CONFERENCE SERIES
• With the Sun Belt Conference regular-season schedule ending this week, the Chanticleers' Sun Belt Conference three-game series with South Alabama (May 19-21) is pivotal.
• Coastal enters the week in third place in the regular-season conference standings at 19-7-1 and 3.5 games out of first place.
• However, the Chants are just 0.5 games out of second place and hold the tiebreaker with a series win over the Georgia Southern Eagles who are in second overall.
• With a series win over South Alabama this week, the Chanticleers could at best climb as high as second place in the regular-season standings, but with a series loss could fall to as low as fifth.
HOME. SWEET. HOME.
• Coastal enjoyed #ThePalace for the first eight games of the season and the month of February.
• After playing four games on the road in the first week of March - at UNCW (March 2) and North Carolina (March 4-6) - the Chanticleers returned home for what turned out to be a seven-game homestand versus Wake Forest (March 8), Xavier (March 11-13), and ULM (March 18-20).
• Coastal suffered a three-game series sweep at home to Georgia State (April 8-10) but bounced back to record a sweep of its own with three consecutive wins over UTA (April 22-24), posted a 16-1 blowout win over UNCW (May 3) in midweek play, and then trounced Little Rock in a three-game series sweep (May 6-8) at Brooks Stadium.
• CCU continued its winning ways at home, pushing the winning streak to eight consecutive games with a 17-2 beatdown of the Clemson Tigers (May 17) on Tuesday in midweek action.
• The Chanticleers are 20-6-1 at home this season.
DOUBLE-DIGIT RUNS
• The Chanticleers have put up a number of runs on the scoreboard as of late, including posting double-digit tallies in seven of their last 13 games.
• Coastal started the double-digit trend with a 17-7 win on the road in midweek action at the College of Charleston on April 26.
• After scoring just 13 runs over three games at Georgia Southern (April 29-May 1), the Chants recorded 16 runs in a 16-1 win over UNCW on Tuesday (May 3).
• Versus Little Rock (May 6-8), the Chants' offense totaled 15 runs in a 15-4 Friday night win and then closed out the series with a 19-9, seven-inning win over the Trojans on Sunday to complete the series sweep.
• At Troy (May 13-15) last weekend, the Chants scored 10 runs in the Friday night win and 11 more in the series-finale victory on Sunday to complete the road series sweep.
• The double-digit trend carried over into midweek play on Tuesday night (May 11), as the Chants put up 17 runs in a 17-2 trouncing of the Clemson Tigers.
• This season, the Chants have scored double-digit runs 13 times, going 12-0-1 in those contests.
THOSE CHANTS ARE ON FIRE
• The offense has been on fire the last few weeks, including the last five games overall.
• Over their last five games, CCU has hit .307 as a team with six home runs, a triple, 14 doubles, a .512 slugging percentage, and a .425 on-base percentage.
• The offense has scored 47 runs and drove in 40 RBIs over the five-game stretch, and has gone a perfect 11-for-11 in stolen bases.
