EUGENE, Ore. – Coastal Carolina track & field's
Melissa Jefferson raced to a second-place finish with a time of 11.03 in her women's 100-meters preliminaries heat on Saturday night to advance to the semifinals at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Jefferson, who recently signed a professional contract with Nike, turned in the eighth-fastest time on the night at 11.03 (-0.1) and was one of three Americans to qualify for the semifinals, along with Twanisha Terry (10.95) and Aleia Hobbs (11.04).
The semifinals for the women's 100-meters are scheduled to begin at 8:33 p.m. ET tomorrow (Sunday, July 17) with the finals set for 10:50 p.m. ET.
The 2022 World Athletics Championships will be the first world outdoor track & field championships held in the United States at the new Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
NBC holds the U.S. broadcast rights for the 2022 World Athletics Championships and the meet will be broadcast on NBC, USA, and CNBC, and stream on Peacock and NBCSports.com as well.
