Kelley Takes Ninth in the 400-Meters at the 2022 World U20 Championships

CALI, Colombia – Coastal Carolina's Mekenze Kelley just missed reaching the finals of the 400-meters at the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships on Wednesday night, as she placed ninth overall in the semifinals.
Running in the first of three semifinals heats on Wednesday night, Kelley crossed the finish line fourth in her heat with a time of 53.09.
Her time of 53.09 was the ninth-best time on the night for the 400-meters and was actually better than Precious Molepo's (Russia) time of 53.28, who qualified for the finals heat by finishing second in the third heat. (The top two times from each heat and the next best two times advanced to the finals).
Kelley reached the semifinals with a time of 53.59 in the preliminaries on Tuesday, which was the 10th-fastest time during that stage of the event.
