CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer program fell at home to the High Point Panthers 2-1 on Sunday night at the CCU Soccer Stadium.
With the loss, the Chanticleers dropped to 2-2-1 overall, while the Panthers improved to 2-2-1 overall as well with the victory.
High Point used two second-half goals to hand Coastal just their second loss of the season.
After a quiet first half and a 45-minute weather delay, CCU went up 1-0 in the 62nd minute as
Alvaro Garcia-Pascual headed in his team-leading fourth goal of the season on a ball from teammate
Noah Glorioso.
In the 82nd minute, the Chants'
Jonah Stekly was called for a foul inside the penalty box, awarding the Panthers a penalty kick which Kaya Ignacio converted to level the score at 1-1.
High Point took the lead just two minutes later as Amaya Jefferson sent a corner kick into the box that Noah Holmes put into the back of the net to give the Panthers a 2-1 advantage in the 84th minute.
Coastal Carolina found the advantage in total shots at 9-8 (4-3 SOG), while also tallying a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. In goal, High Point recorded three saves to the Chants one stop.
The Chanticleers return to the road to open Sun Belt Conference play on Friday, Sept. 16, as CCU heads to Morgantown, W.Va., to face No. 23 nationally-ranked West Virginia at 7 p.m. ET.
