BOONE, N.C. – Coastal Carolina's
Molly Jones recorded her second win of the young season as the junior crossed the finish line first overall in the women's 5k run at the Firetower Project Run to highlight Friday's action in Boone, N.C.
Overall, the women's team finished fourth overall with 130 points, finishing behind winner Charlotte (22), host Appalachian State (71), and the College of Charleston (115). The men's team placed 10th in the team standings, as host Appalachian State (20) ran away with the 8k meet.
Jones, who finished first overall in the season-opening meet at the Carolina Challenge on Sept. 3, recorded a personal-best time of 17:26.82 in the 5k run on Friday at the Firetower Project run. Her time was also the 10th-best time in CCU history.
Finishing 18th overall was
Ellie Wolski with a time of 18:28.94, while
Amilia Wise-Sweat crossed the finish line in 26th overall with a time of 18:42.19.
Behind Wise-Sweat was
Ashley Rulison (19:51.22) in 56th,
Kylee Denver (19:55.44) in 59th, and
Ella Lehmann (20:02.04) in 61st, while newcomers
Taylor Houston (21:20.37) and
Tiarra Smith (22:03.29) rounded out the Chant runners at 82nd and 92nd, respectively.
Like Jones,
Tomas Duncan again paced the Chanticleers on the men's side as he finished 51st overall with a time of 28:02.64.
Returner
Ethan Blackwelder placed 61st with a time of 28:32.51, finishing ahead of
Hunter White (29:51.33) in 81st,
Jack Benoit (31:12.66) in 89th, and newcomer
Camren Stamp (32:37.48) in 91st place overall.
The Chanticleers will host the Chanticleer Challenge on Friday, Sept. 30, at the General Hackler Golf Course in Conway, S.C.
