Coastal Football Wins Shootout at North Greenville (Sept. 25, 2003)
Spurred by 35 unanswered second-quarter points, Coastal Carolina snapped a two-game losing streak with a 49-39 victory at North Greenville on Sept. 25. With the victory, CCU moves to 2-2 on the season, while North Greenville falls to 0-4.

The win was the first road win in the program's history and came in the Chants' first-ever Thursday night game.

Coastal took the opening drive 58 yards in 13 plays, capped by an eight-yard run by quarterback Ren McKinnon to give the Chants a 7-0 lead.

North Greenville scored the next 17 points, including two touchdowns in the first four minutes of the second quarter.

Coastal then exploded for two touchdowns by running backs Aundres Perkins and Demetrius Morant in a 1:09 span and a third less than two minutes later by Morant to put CCU up 28-17 with 7:23 left in the half.

The Chanticleers weren't done, as Perkins scored another touchdown on the ground and linebacker Lounzy Green had a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown to give CCU a 42-17 halftime advantage.

North Greenville scored twice within four minutes late in the third and early in the fourth to cut the margin to 42-31 with more than 13 minutes to play in the contest.

However, CCU kept the ball for more than six minutes on its next drive to chew up the clock and then, on the following possession, capped off its scoring on Perkins' 12-yard touchdown run with less than a minute to play.

North Greenville did add one final touchdown with 25 seconds to play to cap the scoring.

Perkins, the freshman from Florence, had a standout night, rushing 34 times for a season-best 202 yards and three touchdowns. Darnell Williams was also key on kickoff returns, having five returns for 166 yards, giving Coastal an average starting position of the 40-yard line off the Crusaders' kickoffs.

North Greenville was led by quarterback Bobby Pittman, who was 20-for-43 for 369 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions, while Clay Wiles had 12 catches for 206 yards.

The Chanticleers would finish the inaugural season at 6-5 overall with wins over Newberry, North Greenville, Charleston (W.Va.), Savannah State, Davidson, and Charleston Southern.
