CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team wrapped up its third-straight day of play on Sunday, as the Chanticleers won six matches versus the Campbell Fighting Camels on the final day of the Coastal Carolina Battle at the Beach Hidden Duals in Conway, S.C.
Over the three days of play, the Chanticleers went a combined 23-10 overall against the College of Charleston, Wofford, and Campbell.
"Overall, it was a solid weekend. Our doubles were excellent, and I think that could be a real strength going into the spring season," commented head coach
Chris Powers. "We lost some close ones today, so that will be a focus when we head back to practice next week."
The Chants swept the four doubles bouts on Sunday, which accounted for four of the six wins on the day.
The 2021 All-Sun Belt duo of
Steve Mundt and
Carlos Berna Ruiz won 6-2 at the No. 1 flight, while the team of
Lucas Wayenburg and
Guilherme Toresan matched their teammates with a 6-2 win at the No. 3 flight.
At the No. 4 flight, the tandem of
Rivers Cahill and
Neil O'Connor won 6-3, while the Chants' pair of
Ryuya Ata and
Maj Tomac held on for a 7-6 (5) tiebreaker win at the No. 2 flight to complete the doubles sweep.
In singles action, the Chants' Berna Ruiz won 6-4, 7-6 at the No. 5 position, while his doubles partner Mundt won 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 6 spot.
The Chants will return to action in two weeks at the UNCG Hidden Duals on Oct. 8-9 in Greensboro, N.C.
