Coastal Men's Soccer Battles No. 3 Marshall to 0-0 Draw

Chants will return to action on Oct. 7

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team battled not only mother nature, but the No. 3 nationally-ranked Marshall men's soccer team to a 0-0 draw in Conway on Thursday night.

With the draw, the Chanticleers picked up a point in conference action and are now 3-3-3 overall and 0-0-2 in Sun Belt Conference action. Marshall is now 5-1-2 overall and 1-0-2 in conference play.

Marshall tallied the first shot of the match, as Milo Yosef's shot was saved by CCU goalkeeper Joey Batrouni just five minutes into the match. Batrouni tallied his second save of the night in the 21st minute, as The Herd recorded its second shot on goal via Adam Aoumaich.

The Herd tallied five shots in the opening 45 minutes, but the Chanticleer defense battled to keep Marshall out of the box.

Coastal's Eythor Kjartansson recorded the Chants' first shot of the match in the 69th minute, as the freshman fired a ball towards the bottom corner of the net only to see it saved by Marshall's Oliver Semmle. Noe Santos tacked on Coastal's second shot-on-goal in the 77th minute but his attempt was also collected by The Herd's goalkeeper to keep the score level.

The Herd looked for the advantage in the final few seconds of the contest, as Marshall fired back-to-back shots, but the Chanticleer defense proved itself yet again. Yosef's shot with 30 seconds remaining was blocked before Taminu Okiyoshi's shot went sailing over the crossbar thanks to the Coastal pressure as the final seconds ticked off the clock.

Marshall found the advantage in total shots at 16-3, including a 4-2 shots on goal advantage. Coastal Carolina, however, finished with a 4-2 edge in total saves.

Coastal Carolina returns to the road and heads south to take on (RV) Georgia State on Friday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m. ET from Atlanta.
