Chanticleers Drop Sunday Contest to Campbell

CCU returns to the road on Sept. 8

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team battled but fell at home to Campbell 2-1 in a non-conference matchup at the CCU Soccer Stadium on Sunday night.

With the loss, CCU drops to 0-3-2 overall on the season, while Campbell improves to 2-3-1 overall with the victory.

The first half was scoreless and saw both teams tally just six shots in the opening 45 minutes. Coastal Carolina took its first shot 40 minutes into the contest as Megan Brouse's attempt was saved by the Camels' goalkeeper.

Campbell needed less than 10 minutes following the break to tally its first goal of the night and go up 1-0 as Elyssa Nowowieski connected on a pass from teammate Mary Tierney in the 53rd minute.

Brouse notched her team-leading fourth goal of the season in the 69th minute on a corner kick that the senior was able to bend into the top corner of the net to level the score at 1-1.

However, it would be the visiting Camels who would score next, as in the 74th minute, Campbell's Jessica Donald played a ball from Tierney and fired what proved to be the game-winner into the goal to give the Camels a 2-1 advantage.

CCU kicks off a two-game road test on Sept. 8, as the Chants are set to face Charlotte before heading south and taking on Stetson on Sept. 11.
