ORLANDO, Fla. - The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team suffered a 5-0 shutout loss to No. 2 UCF in Orlando, Fla., on Wednesday night.
With the loss, the Chants fall to 3-6-3, 1-3-2 Sun Belt, while UCF advance to 8-1-2, 4-1-1.
The Chants looked to get an early lead when Eythor Kjartansson noticed the UCF keeper was off his goal line. Kjartansson then attempted to lob the ball over his head but the shot flew just over the crossbar to keep the score at 0-0.
The Knight's offense came knocking at the door in the 27th and 28th minute forcing Coastal keeper Alex Hare to make three crucial saves to hold the score at 0-0.
Just one minute later, Clarence Awoudor drilled a shot into the body of Robert Valdimarsson but the rebound landed at Awourdor's feet for a second time and he was able to take care of business to put the Knights up 1-0.
In the remaining 16 minutes of the first frame, each team took one shot but neither attempt was able to find the back of the net.
At the end of the first half, UCF led 11-2 in shots and each side tallied two corners apiece.
The Knights pushed ahead in the 46th minute when Raphael Crivello's shot ricochet off the post into Hare's back which then trickled into the back of the net to make the score 2-0.
UCF extended its lead in the 48th minute when Emmanuel Bam netted the third goal of the match off an assist from Lucca Dourado to put the Knights up 3-0.
The Knights tallied two more goals in the 68th and 69thminutes to take the 5-0 victory.
The Chanticleers will return to the CCU Soccer Stadium to take on No. 5 West Virginia on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. ET.
