Chants Suffer Shutout Loss in Season Finale

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team closed out its season with a 1-0 loss to the James Madison Dukes in Harrisonburg, Va., on Thursday night.
With the loss, the Chants concluded their season with a 3-12-2, 0-8-2 Sun Belt record while JMU improved to 7-3-8, 4-1-5 Sun Belt.
After a match suspension, Coastal keeper Vivienne Carr dove back into the action and denied the Dukes of a perfect start, making a big save in the seventh minute.
JMU continued to put attacking pressure on the CCU defense when Suwaibatu Mohammed rattled the woodwork in the 22nd but it was not enough to take the lead.
The Dukes outshot the Chants 8-0 in the remainder of the half hitting the woodwork two more times while forcing Carr to make three saves to hold the score at 0-0.
The Chants were unable to get off a shot in the opening frame and trailed 6-0 in corner kicks.
Coastal came out firing in the second period when Lou Martinet whipped the ball into the six-yard box but Tamlyn Parkes pulled her shot just wide to keep the score at 0-0.
The Dukes broke the match open in the 69th minute when Mohammed dribbled into the box and blasted the ball into the top left corner to make the score 1-0.
Coastal looked to get things going in the 82nd and 83rd minutes when Martinet and Rocio Fernandez each took shots but they were unable to find the back of the net.
The Dukes tried to tally one more goal in the 86th minute forcing Carr to make her ninth save of the match but ultimately took the 1-0 win.
