CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team fell to the Georgia State Panthers 1-0 at the CCU Soccer Stadium on Tuesday night.
With the loss, the Chants concluded their season with a 3-9-3, 1-6-2 Sun Belt record, while Georgia State improved to 6-6-5, 3-4-2 Sun Belt.
The Chants came out hot in the opening ten minutes with
Deryn Armstrong and
Loed Klaasen each taking shots in the 6th and 10th minutes, respectively, but neither could find the back of the net.
The Panthers looked to take the lead in the 24th minute when Tom Williams fired the first shot on frame, but it was met by the safe hands of
Kilian Vallant to hold the score at 0-0.
Each team took one shot each in the following 15 minutes, but neither was enough to threaten the opposing keepers.
With two minutes left in the first half, CCU countered down the field when Noah Lechelt fed the ball to Armstrong, but he dragged his shot wide to keep the score at 0-0.
At the end of the first period, Coastal outshot the Panthers 5-3, while Georgia State led 2-1 in corner kicks.
In the first 15 minutes of the second frame, CCU led 7-3 in shots while forcing three saves from the GSU keeper to keep the score at 0-0.
The momentum flipped in favor of the Panthers during the next 17 minutes with GSU taking four shots while refusing to let the Chants get off a single shot attempt.
GSU took the lead in the in 82nd minute when Gondo Hideto crossed the ball across the face of the goal to Bryan Akongo who then sunk the ball into the back of the net to make the score 1-0.
Coastal had one more attempt to try and level the score in the 84th minute but Lincoln Ulrich's shot was denied by the GSU keeper to give the Panther the 1-0 win.
