SAN MAROS, TEXAS – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team fell to the Texas State Bobcats 4-0 in San Marcos, Texas, on Thursday night.
With the loss, the Chants drop to 3-8-1, 0-4-1 Sun Belt, and the Bobcats propel to 7-4-2, 2-1-2 Sun Belt.
Both teams were firing in the opening 15 minutes. The Bobcats took five shots to Coastal's two and both team's keepers had to make a save to hold the score at 0-0.
Texas State took the lead in the 25th minute when Zoe Junior lobbed the ball to Olivia Wright, who charged into the box and volleyed the ball into the back of the net to put the Bobcats up 1-0.
In the remaining 20 minutes of the first period, the Bobcats took four more shots while refusing to let the Chants let any fly but they couldn't break through the Coastal defense to extend their lead.
The Chants trailed 3-11 in shots, 1-3 in corners, and 2-3 in fouls at the end of the first frame.
The Bobcats pushed ahead in the 50th minute when Victoria Meza ripped the ball into the bottom left corner from the edge of the box off an assist from Wright and Lily Erb to make the score 2-0.
CCU looked to tally one goal back in the 54th minute when
Julia Ziegenfuss drilled the ball to the bottom left corner but the Texas State keeper pulled off a big save to keep the score at 2-0.
Just two minutes later,
Sarah Soraghan took down Wright in the penalty box to send Madi Goss to the penalty spot. Goss held her nerve and buried the ball into the net to extend the Bobcats lead to 3-0.
Texas State bagged another goal in the 82nd minute when Kennley Bradley crossed the ball in from the corner spot to the head of Meza, who squared the ball to Wright, who then netted the fourth goal of the night to make the score 4-0 and give the Bobcats the win.
The Chanticleers will return to the CCU Soccer Stadium on Oct. 8 to take on Georgia Southern at 1 p.m. ET.
