Coastal to Meet No. 21 Western Kentucky in Knoxville in NCAA Tournament

Volleyball headed to their sixth NCAA Tournament
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – In their sixth NCAA Tournament, the Coastal Carolina volleyball team is set to meet the No. 21 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in the opening round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament on Friday, Dec. 1 in Knoxville, Tenn. The Chanticleers head to the event with a 22-9 record after claiming the automatic bid after taking the Sun Belt regular season and tournament titles.

Friday, Dec. 1 – 4:30 p.m. ET | WKU vs. Coastal Carolina
Friday, Dec. 1 – 6:30 p.m. ET | No. 12 Tennessee vs. High Point
Second Round
Saturday, Dec. 2 – 6 p.m. ET | Winner vs. Winner of No. 12 Tennessee/High Point
Tickets are available through Tennessee Athletics and seating is general admission inside the Food City Center. Tickets start at just $5 for a single match and parking is free for all matches.
HISTORY BETWEEN COASTAL CAROLINA AND WKU
This is just the second meeting between the two programs with Coastal Carolina having won the lone meeting 3-1 in Richmond, Va., in September 1995.
ABOUT COASTAL CAROLINA
Coastal Carolina received the automatic bid after winning both the Sun Belt regular season and tournament titles. The Chanticleers finished with a 14-2 Sun Belt record and went 7-3 against teams that made the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
The Chants are led by the 2023 Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year, Player of the Year and All-Sun Belt first team Jasmine Rivest. The Montreal, Quebec native led Coastal with 482 kills and 43 service aces, while the 2023 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Jalyn Stout tallied an NCAA record 14 triple-doubles on the year.
Stout totaled 353 kills, 491 assists, and 318 digs to average a triple-double on the season. The Gainesville, Fla., native was fifth on the team with 35 blocks and wrapped up the 2023 Sun Belt Championship with back-to-back triple-doubles to be named the 2023 Sun Belt Volleyball Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
Joining Rivest and Stout on the all-conference teams, freshman libero Sydney Lewis, an All-Sun Belt second team honoree, led the Chanticleers with 469 digs and finished with 21 service aces. Middle blockers Valentina Varani and Dilara Unal lead the Chants with 116 and 106 blocks, respectively.
ABOUT WESTERN KENTUCKY
The Hilltoppers wrapped up the 2023 season with a 29-4 record and the automatic bid by claiming the Conference USA regular season and tournament titles.
Paige Briggs leads WKU with 424 kills with Kaylee Cox (365) and Kenadee Coyle (219) totaling 200 or more kills. Callie Bauer is the team's top assist leader having assisted 1,177 of the Hilltoppers 1,416 assists. Briggs leads the team with 56 service aces, while Katie Howard has tallied 46 from the service line.
On the defense, Logan Grevengoed leads Western Kentucky with 121 blocks, while Abby Schaefer finished with 364 digs.
