
Chanticleers Open Season in Atlanta Versus Georgia Tech

This is the first ever meeting between the two squads
CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team will open the 2023-24 season on the road in Atlanta, Ga., on Monday, Nov. 6, as the Chanticleers will take on Atlantic Coast Conference opponent Georgia Tech. The opening tip is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET at the McCamish Pavilion.
HISTORY BETWEEN COASTAL AND GEORGIA TECH
The game will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams on the hardwood. Coastal was picked to finish 10th in the Sun Belt Conference in the preseason coaches poll.
ABOUT COASTAL
Coastal Carolina closed the 2022-23 season with a 14-16 overall record and 9-9 in the SBC play as the Chants averaged 70.0 points per game while shooting 41.3 percent from the field and 33.4 percent from three-point range. Defensively, Coastal allowed 68.1 points per game and held its opponents to 40.7 shooting percentage from the floor and 30.4 from behind the three-point arch. The Chanticleers and opponents were even in the rebound battle by grabbed 36.6 rebounds per contest.
Coastal will return graduate student Deaja Richardson and junior Arin Freeman who averaged 13.8 and 10.4 points per game, respectively. Sophomore Anaya Barney and junior Arielle-Vadrelle Belinga return after seeing significant playing time last year, along with two-time All-American Makaila Cange who returns after sitting out last season.
CCU will mix in transfers Tiara Abron, Jaylen Ponder, and Zaria Hurston with the young nucleus of freshmen that include Alancia Ramsey, Riley Stack, Dalanna Carter, Kendahl Spearman, and Darby Grigg.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets return seven players from the 2022-23 team that finished last season with a 13-17 record and finished 4-14 in the ACC. The Yellow Jackets' top returning scorer is Tonie Morgan with 9.8 points per game while Kara Dunn and Kayla Blackshear are right behind Morgan with 7.6 and 7.5 points per game, respectively.
As a team, Georgia Tech averaged 60.9 points per game while allowing 62.4 points per game and and being outshot by its opponents 39.7 percent to 37.8 percent from the floor. GT averaged 36.8 rebounds per game, while surrendering 37.8 boards per contest.
