CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men's basketball program will host Wofford on Saturday, Dec. 9, at the HTC Center at 2 p.m. ET. It's the Chants fourth game in the last 11 days.
LAST TIME OUT
The Chants defeated St. Andrews 110-46 last Monday evening. The Chants trailed early as the Knights held the lead for the first four minutes of the game. Then CCU took over going on a 19-0 run to take over the game.
Every Chanticleer on the bench entered the game and CCU had a season-high six players reach double digits in scoring.
John Ojiako led the Chants with a game-high 20 points and added 12 rebounds to collect his fourth double-double of the season.
Freshman
Jacob Meyer added 19 points, with 15 of those coming on five three-point field goals
. Kylan Blackmon added three three-pointers and finished with 15 points.
CCU scored 50 points off the bench led by
Ian Granja (14 pts.),
Jimmy Nichols (11 pts.), and
Miroslav Stafl (10 pts.).
HISTORY BETWEEN COASTAL AND WOFFORD
Even with the teams in the same state and less than four hours apart, these programs have only met seven times on the hardcourt with Wofford holding a 5-2 lead in the series. The Chants have won once on its homecourt and that was a 60-59 win back in 2021.
ABOUT COASTAL
For the first time in over 16 years, the Chants will not have
Cliff Ellis on the sidelines as the head coach. After announcing his retirement this past week, associate head coach
Benny Moss has taken over the program after being named the interim head coach for the rest of the season.
CCU enters the action with a 3-5 record and Meyer leads the team in scoring averaging 13.5 points per game and in assists with 22 and steals with 13, while, Blackmon averages 13.4 points per game and his 20 three-point field goals is a team-high.
Ojiako leads the Sun Belt Conference with his 79 rebounds and 9.9 rebounds per game and he is also scoring 12.9 points per game while shooting 64.1 percent from the field.
Kevin Easley is the fourth Chanticleer to average double figures at 12.0 points per game.
ABOUT WOFFORD
The Terriers are 4-5 entering the game. Wofford started the season with consecutive wins, then lost five games in a row. They have now won their last two games and enter the game on that winning streak.
Wofford has two players averaging in double figures led by Corey Tripp's 15.6 points per game. He leads the team in assists with 32 and is second in rebounding averaging 6.0 per game.
Dillon Bailey is averaging 14.7 points per game and is tied for the team lead in three-point field goals with 17. Chase Cormier is averaging 9.7 points per game, coming off the bench in eight of the Terriers' games. He is the team's top shooting threat hitting 62.2 percent of his field goals and 56.7 percent of his three-point field goals. He is also a perfect 14-for-14 from the free throw line.
