LYNCHBURG, Va. – Sophomore hurdler
Alexis Glasco once again highlighted the Chanticleers' performances on the track on Friday, as the Coastal Carolina women's indoor track & field team competed on day one of the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational hosted by Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.
For the third time this season, Glasco set a new school record, this time with a time of 8.18 to cross the finish line in first place overall in the 60-meter hurdles semifinals.
Later in the day, Glasco recorded a first-place finish in the 400-meters with her time of 55.78, the eighth-fastest time for the 400-meters in CCU's all-time performance list.
Fellow sophomore
Amilia Wise-Sweat also set anew school record, as she posted a second-place finish in the 800-meters with a time of 2:10.40.
Also etching her name in CCU's all-time indoor track & field performance list was sophomore
Zayna Fray-Samuel, as she posted a personal best and the third-best mark in CCU history of 18.02 meters in the weight throw event to place fourth overall. She finished four spots ahead of classmate
Lauralyn Clifford and her distance of 17.21 meters.
Joining Glasco in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles on Saturday will be both
Sydney Clemens, who placed second in the semifinals heat with a time of 8.39, and
Amanda Kinloch, who turned in a time of 8.47 for fourth place in the semifinals.
Fellow sprinter
Kayla Sweeney will also be in the finals on Saturday, as she finished first in the 60-meter dash semifinals on Friday with a time of 7.48 to qualify for the finals. Kinloch recorded a time of 7.82 in the 60-meter dash prelims.
Also competing for the women's team on Friday was senior
Nikki Boon, who turned in a personal-best time of 8.91 in the 60-meter hurdles, transfer
Brianna Tillman, who recorded a time of 59.77 in the 400-meters, and
Ellie Wolski, who recorded a personal-best time of 9:58.06 to finish 24th overall in the 3000-meters.
In the field events, redshirt junior
Kynnedy Dennis placed 16th overall in the women's pole vault elite with a height of 3.61 meters, while
Destiny St. Cyr finished 16th in the long jump event with a leap of 5.47 meters in her CCU debut.
Competing with St. Cyr in the long jump event was fellow Chants
Keiran Martin (5.40m),
Claire Spiller (5.23m),
Mia Lewis (4.92m), and
Kirsten Maybach (4.84m).
Running unattached on the men's side was senior
Albrey Gossett. He turned in a personal-best time of 8.05 both in the men's 60-meter hurdles prelims and the 60-meter hurdles semifinals to reach the finals heat on Saturday.
Coastal will return to competition for day two at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational tomorrow beginning at 10:30 a.m. ET.
