Cold-Shooting Chants Fall at Georgia Southern, 76-68

Uduje scored a game-high 22 points in the loss

STATESBORO, Ga. – Sophomore Josh Uduje scored a game-high 22 points, but it was not enough as Coastal Carolina fell to Georgia Southern 76-68 in Sun Belt Conference men's basketball action Wednesday night at Hanner Fieldhouse in Statesboro, Ga.

Uduje was the lone Chanticleer to reach double figures in the game, scoring his points on 6-of-14 shooting and going a perfect 8-of-8 at the free throw line.

While the Eagles (15-15, 8-9 Sun Belt) led for almost 36 minutes of the game, there were five lead changes and three ties. The Chants only trailed by five at 60-55 with six minutes left in the game before the home-standing Eagles went on a 7-0 run to push the lead to 67-55. The Chants would not get any closer than the final eight-point score.

Antonio Daye finished the game with nine points and a team-high 10 rebounds and four assists, while Wilfried Likayi and Jimmy Nichols finished the game with eight points each.

CCU only shot 37.7 percent from the field and an even worse 23.5 percent from behind the three-point line. The Chants were a perfect 14-for-14 at the free throw line in falling to 11-18 overall and 5-12 the Sun Belt Conference.

Georgia Southern had a balanced attack in shooting over 47 percent from the field, led by Kamari Brown, who came off the bench to score 14 points. Tyren Moore scored 13, and Andrei Savrasov finished with a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Kaden Archie added 11 points for the Eagles.

Georgia Southern hit a season-high 14 three-point field goals and finished the game shooting 48.3 percent (14-for-29) from beyond the three-point line. The Eagles also hit 14-of-19 shot attempts at the free throw line.

As CCU's leading rebounder Essam Mostafa continues to miss games due to an injury, the Chants' rebounding continues to suffer, as evidenced by Georgia Southern's 38-28 rebound difference in the game. The Chants did finish the game with only six turnovers and had seven steals while forcing 13 turnovers and only allowing four steals.

The Chanticleers will end the regular season with another road game at Troy, scheduled for Friday, Feb. 24, at 7:30 p.m. ET, at the Trojan Arena in Troy, Ala.
